Prep for slow cooked choc chilli beef

The last thing I really wanted to do before bed was brown some meat, but it’s slightly more fun than doing it before going to work.

As well as browning 440g beef chunks, Hubby finely chopped (using the hand-blender – easy peasy) two medium onions, one red chilli (deseeded) and four cloves garlic. I also prepared spices, most of which I did with my trusty pestle and mortar – 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tbsp ground coriander (seeds, best ground fresh rather than bought ground), 2 tbsp ground cumin, a pinch ground cloves, 1 tsp cayenne pepper. and 2 bay leaves.

Tomorrow it will all be ready to chuck in the slow cooker, with various other ingredients, and left to cook while I am at work.

More on the rest of the recipe and how it turns out tomorrow.
