Eating out: Ha-lal

A new all-you-can-eat buffet eatery – Ha-lal – has opened up next to Jimmy Chung’s in Dundee and it’s really rather good. The set price buffet includes all you can drink too – bargain!

The fare is mostly curry, but many varieties to choose from, including bhuna, tikka and dopiaza, and there was lamb, chicken, chickpea and aubergine. There was also pakora, mushroom pakora, chicken pakora and curried chicken drumsticks. And, of course, naan (plain and garlic) and rice (plain and pilau) in the side.

And if that wasn’t enough, there was also pizza, macaroni cheese, chips and a salad bar.

And the obligatory ice cream machine.

So lots to choose from, AND the food was good. The pakora etc were tasty, and there was a good onion relish in the salad bar to go alongside. Teh curries were fantastically varied, all flavourful, and some spicy – glad to see they haven’t steered clear of that like so many restaurants these days! The particular favourite was the aubergine and potato curry – yum!

In addition, there was a good atmosphere, the staff were helpful and courteous, and the decor was appealing (I particularly liked the little running/falling/jumping people…). We will be back.
