Eating out: afternoon tea at the Balmoral, Edinburgh

What a treat?! Afternoon tea at the Balmoral was fantastic: delightful company, delicious tea, and fabulous food.

We were tempted with:
– sandwiches: salmon, egg & cress, cream cheese & cucumber, ham, and goat’s cheese & rocket
– scones: fruit and plain
– pastries, cakes etc: lemon almond tart, apple slice, chocolate hazelnut slice, a rhubarb & custard pot, and shortbread

I had the Edinburgh blend tea, which was extremely drinkable! I’ve had the Balmoral blend too, which is also very good.

The surroundings were beautiful too! The Palm Court is pretty spectacular, and we had our own harpist.

The service was ok, and that’s all I’ll say about it. It wasn’t bad, but wen you’re in a high end place the staff should smile, or at least not look completely miserable, IMHO.

Overall, a most excellent experience! Although it doesn’t quite compete with the view or the pastries at the Cale Hilton…

Thanks for the pingback! My top afternoon tea recommendation for afternoon tea in Edinburgh is the Cale Hilton: the views of the Castle are unparalleled.
